My love of language and of Shakespeare’s works have come together in the form of two novels...

...that take a young William Shakespeare as their hero and find him, in his ‘lost years’, travelling to Venice and Verona and discovering both wonders and dangers there.  A particular pleasure of the novels was trying to find a way to honour the language of the period and Shakespeare’s own patterns of language in a way that remained accessible for a modern audience.

As well as writing novels I have written for radio and print and, slightly less thrillingly but no less importantly, I have contributed to a number of legal textbooks.

And in April 2021…

My latest book was published. It is all about Shakespeare’s rhetoric in performance, in collaboration with The Arden Shakespeare and RADA.  It is an accessible and practical guide to Shakespeare’s use of language that will help directors, actors, teachers and students to understand and approach texts for performance.
